Gum Depigmentation also known as gum bleaching is a procedure in cosmetic dentistry to lighten the colour of your gums and remove black spots or patches on the gums consisting of melanin.

Why do we have Gum Pigmentation?

The main determinant factor of your skin color is the presence of melanin pigment. Melanin is present in gums as well.So, when you have an excess of melanin deposits in your gum, black spots and patches appear which is also known as Gingival hyperpigmentation.

It can be caused due to:

• Prolonged use of certain medications
• Genetic factors
